Community college transfer in Alaska
What Alaska guarantees when you move from a community college to a public university, where to check how your classes transfer, and how students at each public community and technical college did.
Statewide transfer rules
Whether Alaska has these four statewide rules, as of July 2022. Rules change, and many colleges have their own agreements on top of these, so confirm with a transfer adviser.
- An associate degree transfers as a whole
- No statewide rule
- Finish a transfer associate degree and public universities in the state accept it as a block, usually entering you as a junior.
- A general-education core that transfers
- Yes
- A set of general-education courses that public colleges in the state agree to accept together.
- Common course numbers
- No statewide rule
- The same course has the same number at every public college, so it is easy to see what matches.
- Reverse transfer
- No statewide rule
- If you transfer before finishing your associate degree, credits you earn at the university can be sent back so you still get it.
